In response to NYTimes columnist David Leonhardt published March 10, 2020 about 7 steps to minimize risk of spreading corona virus (COVID-10), who asked “Did I miss anything?” March 11, 2020 Hi Mr Leonhardt Thanks for asking. I have been a primary care doc for nearly 30 years (in Juneau Alaska). Did you know that our endogenous anti-viral is FEVER? https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2013.2570?fbclid=IwAR2fUpjtOWW2nbeegsqK535uLj0ywwdtzq0EgonfRfPWTghmfKij8gFldVc& Also https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2951171/?fbclid=IwAR2WTSgftKKaqiz685EtWNoua_OC2kcQ-GK80IabyD7ovTLpyZ8M9_C1vIc#__sec14title Humans capable of mounting an appropriate immune response develop a fever when exposed to viral infections. Viruses are tiny, as you know, and do their dirty work inside cells. As opposed to bacteria, which are much larger and infect the space outside our cells, typically producing snot and phlegm and the like (mucus mixed with spent white blood cells). The fact that the virus may abate with warmer weather has gotten some airplay but the deeper message is not getting across: viruses dislike heat. Most viruses cannot survive in temperatures above say 103 degrees F. I have instructed all my patients, besides assiduous prolonged hand washing and keeping fingers away from the “danger triangle” of eyes, nose...
Shocker: Comparing deaths from medical drugs, vitamins, all US wars by Jon Rappoport March 29, 2014 www.nomorefakenews.com People want to believe medical science gives us, at any given moment, the best of all possible worlds. And of course, the best of all possible worlds must have its enemies: the quacks who sell unproven snake oil.
http://www.medscape.com/ http://www.medscape.com/ http://www.medscape.com/ Hot off the press new protocol for improving cognitive function and reversing many measurable parameters of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the precursor to early dementia and eventually Alzheimer’s, which until now has been considered an irreversible disease. No drugs have worked. The “new protocol” (book will be published in the spring, by Dr. Dale Bredesen) states that our brains make amyloid to PROTECT against toxic insults, which are the actual cause of decay of cognitive function. Dr. Bredesen talks about 3 types of Alzheimer’s, which has been borne out by many meta-analyses.
Cancer patients live longer and better with mixed modalities.
Epigenetics is the study of genetic variations that are caused within an individual, by external or environmental factors that can switch genes on and off, as opposed to changes in DNA sequence which happen as genes are passed down to the next generation. One of the most potent ways epigenetics can change is through nutrition. In fact, one of the main reasons good nutrition is so important is because healthy food choices will minimize the expression of disease-causing genes we may have inherited. Unlike behavior or stress, diet is one of the more easily studied, and therefore better understood, environmental factors in epigenetic change. The nutrients we extract from food enter metabolic pathways where they are broken down, modified, and assembled into molecules the body can use. One such pathway is responsible for making methyl groups (CH3), which interact with important epigenetic tags that silence genes. Familiar nutrients like folic acid, B vitamins, and SAM-e (S-Adenosyl methionine, a popular over-the-counter supplement) are key components of this methyl-making pathway. Diets high in these methyl-donating nutrients can rapidly alter gene expression, especially...
calling all women, young and old, even if you have already suffered breast cancer. You don’t want to get it again, right? Please peruse this website a bit and figure out how to incorporate DAILY breast massage, to simulate lymphatic drainage and avoid “stagnation” (the term for disease in Traditional Chinese Medicine): http://www.breasthealthproject.com/breast-self-exam.html
What is the most fundamental nutrient? It’s oxygen. Think about it. You can go 40 days or so without food. You can go maybe 3-4 days without water. But you can’t go 3-4 minutes without oxygen. There are many ways to use oxygen to enhance health and vitality, including the most obvious: aerobic exercise. Exercise increases “oxygen utilization” which ultimately drives the myriad enzyme systems in the body to produce more energy (ATP).
from a colleague: For my bulletproof turmeric, I have used coconut oil, butter, honey, and spices to optimize digest and the absorption of curcumin. Curcumin is notoriously difficult to absorb, but fats and spices, particularly the black pepper in the garam masala, greatly increase our absorption of curcumin into the blood stream. 1 cup water 1 tsp turmeric (optionally add one capsule of curcumin 95% extract) ¼ tsp garam masala 1 tsp maca (optional, but delicious) 1 Tbs grass fed butter 1 Tbs coconut oil or MCT oil 1 tsp honey Simmer water with turmeric and garam masala for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh strainer. Add remaining ingredients and whirl in blender or with immersion blender until foamy.
Here’s a link to the article on NPR (http://n.pr/1lrRnq3 Given, the current agreement is, that there is 10 : 1 ratio of bacteria in our microbiome to cells in our body. There appears to be 10 times more viruses (bacteriophages) in the microbiome than bacteria. This is in terms of genetic material. “In the 1920s and 1930s, before widespread use of antibiotics, physicians successfully treated a variety of infections with bacteriophages, or phages for short. These natural viral predators, which target bacteria but leave mammalian and plant cells unscathed, were sold by pharmaceutical companies including Eli Lilly & Company1 and even made it into the fiction of the time—the protagonist of Sinclair Lewis’ 1925 book Arrowsmith fought bubonic plague with phages.” Globe-Trotting Virus Hides Inside People’s Gut Bacteria New viruses are a dime a dozen. Every few months, we hear about a newly discovered flu virus that’s jumped from birds to people somewhere in the world. And the number of viruses identified in bats is “extraordinary and appears to increase almost daily,” scientists wrote last year in the journal PLOS Pathogens. But a virus that has...
